With the accessibility of online distribution improving year on year, and with more and more artists releasing their own music, it seems odd that it’s still so difficult to get a record deal when it seems to be a dying industry.
So why are record labels still important in the music industry?
The truth is, most songwriters make significant mistakes along the journey from songwriting to releasing their music, and record labels are able to prevent this from happening with their clout and experience.
Here at The Songwriting Academy, we’ve collected the experience from all our mentors to produce this course that teaches you exactly what you need to know about record deals. You’ll discover what millions of songwriters around the globe are doing wrong, and what record companies do differently that makes them so successful.
This course is taught by Duncan King and Ian Clifford:
Ian Clifford has more than 30 years of experience in the music industry, as a music lawyer, songwriter/artist manager, promoter, record label owner, music publisher, and many more roles. He has helped achieve No.1 records across the world, and has first hand experience in creating hits in Rock, Pop, Indie, Hip-Hop, and Dance music.
The knowledge Ian shares isn’t just limited to one genre – any artist can use the same principles to achieve the success they desire.
Duncan King has worked in the music business for 12 years as a DJ promoter, record label and artist manager. He ran Three Six Zero Group’s Right Department managing labels for artists such as Calvin Harris, Deadmau5. He’s also worked with artists such as Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding, DJ Fresh, and many more. He’s also set up a new Las Vegas based EDM label for Capitol Records.
This course contains proven and tested strategies and principles you won’t find anywhere else on whether a record label is right for you, and how to get one if it is, and how to succeed without one if it’s not.
